In 1984, a small "outpost" library was built on a donated lot at the intersection of Shirley Road and Summit Point Road in Summit Point. Almost immediately the 480 square foot structure was overflowing with books, periodicals, and computers. Parking was inadequate and storage was limited. Community use and support of the library indicated a need to begin plans to build a larger facility.

After years of grant writing, fundraising and continued community support, the board of directors held a ground breaking ceremony on May 13, 2003 for the new library. The one-acre lot that was donated by a friend of the library is located in the center of the village of Summit Point. It now houses over 10,000 volumes, books on tape and CD, a children's area, two computer rooms, and a public meeting room.

Our hopes are that the plan continues to benefit the patrons and the growing community. This plan will enable us to proceed with changing opportunities with the financial support of the community.
